About Us

 our club is your club

The Bayview Yacht Racing Association (BYRA) is both a dinghy racing and yacht club based on Pittwater, in Sydney’s northern beaches. We offer some of the best water access and sailing conditions in Sydney. The club boasts a proud history of producing state, national and world champions and is a friendly family club with a strong sense of community.

We offer dinghy racing on Sunday afternoons from September to May. New members and visitors are always welcome to join our existing fleets or introduce a new class to the club.

BYRA strongly focuses on skills development and offers various programmes throughout the year pitched at varying ages and abilities. These have included learn-to-sail programs for both children and adults, junior sailing on Sunday mornings, introduction to racing, race training and other support as requested. For upcoming courses, please check out the events section of the website or contact us at sailing@byra.com.au.

 we run on volunteers

BYRA is run entirely by volunteers, and positive, supportive and enthusiastic members are the club's lifeblood.

Giving of time and skills is an essential part of BYRA membership. Rather than see volunteering as a burden, BYRA works hard to make volunteering an enriching experience that fosters new friends, skills and experiences. We believe a successful volunteering model is one where the load is spread widely and volunteers are supported, happy and engaged.

Volunteering activities range from desktop to on-water roles - everything from running the business side of BYRA to operating safety boats, race management, or even stock-taking for the canteen!

You’ll always recognise a BYRA sailor by their smile and friendly welcome, and that’s just as important to us as doing well on the race course.

our committee

BYRA’s Committee is comprised entirely of volunteers. Office bearers are re-elected yearly at the Annual General Meeting, typically held in May. The Committee’s mission is to grow the club while maintaining its family atmosphere.

The Committee is responsible for the club's management and meets one evening a month throughout the year.

Members are encouraged to join the Committee to play an active role in the club. To learn more about volunteering, please contact the BYRA Commodore at Commodore@byra.com.au.

We welcome you to contact us if you want to speak with any Committee member or raise an item at the next committee meeting
