PETER LOFT MARATHON
The Peter Loft Marathon is held annually to commemorate the premature death of one of its most promising young sailors, Peter Loft, and to raise funds (via entry fees) for the Peter Loft Foundation, which is established to assist junior members of BYRA to participate in National and International sailing events. The event consists of a race to Lion Island, around Lion Island and back to the clubhouse at BYRA. The start is “Le Mans style” with the participants running to their boats in the water and then sailing north. BYRA welcomes many visitor boats every year, from humble single handers to powerful skiffs. Juniors have their own course which is completed by sailing around Scotland Island.
All Year Round
PORTUGUESE BEACH PICNIC DAY
At the end of each sailing season, BYRA combines with other Pittwater-based sailing clubs for a BBQ picnic lunch and games such as tug-of-war and an egg catching competition. Bring food for the BBQ and something to drink.
Catch a lift on one of the club boats or bring your own boat. Many of the members like to sail up. Boats will start leaving BYRA from about 11:00am.
It’s a great day out and all members and their friends are welcome.
TUESDAY TWILIGHT SAILING
The Tuesday night Twilight races will be reintroduced this 2018-19 season after a two-year break. Whilst all sizes of keelboat are welcome, we have found mostly ‘Classic’ craft and those that have seen a couple of decades or so under their hull are most popular. It is a handicap time start.
The start is at 6pm at Hall’s Wharf between the port mark and the RPA buoy.

KEELBOAT SAILING
The club wants to encourage Keelboat members, who are normally also dinghy participants, to meet on several outings during the year. It may be an excursion to the Hawksbury area or a raft up somewhere. And of course, there is the Portuguese beach Picnic in April.
Keep an eye open for news on the website and in the newsletters for further information.
