Our program is designed for maximum fun while kids discover a love of being on the water and foundation sailing skills.

  

CONVENIENT

Enjoy a no-stress Sunday! Easy to park. We offer flexible sessions from as little as one-hour duration. After your class enjoy BYRA's range of aquatic fun such as SUP's, kayaks and more.
 

SAFE

We benefit from a safe, sheltered and shallows  area perfect for those just beginning their sailing journey.

  

GREAT VALUE

Includes all equipment and welcome pack. No need to buy a boat to try sailing - it's all included at BYRA.
 

Sailing is fun for all the family. Our foundation program includes:

  • Suitable for 6+ who are confident swimmers
  • Specially designed to ensure this age group remain engaged, they look forward to coming and at no point are "scared" or daunted by sailing.

  • At this beginning stage, kids benefit from our fun lessons, and appropriate time on the water that is long enough to learn but not too long, so they get overwhelmed or cold etc

  • Boats and lifejackets provided

  • Wear clothes that are OK for getting wet. Reef shoes or similar are highly recommended

Course Overview

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
